Mangement Information System

Lastly, the greatest subject of all. Management Information System teaches us about what technology can do. The wonders of the technological era. We learn about how companies uses information system to store incredible amounts of data which makes everything so simple.

By learning about this subject, everything becomes so simple. For example this portfolio I'm doing keeps records of daily activities. The latest assignment we did was to analyze 7-11 and their information system. We analyzed the weaknesses and benefits and the simplicity in which technology has made their job so much easier. In the recent post i mentioned of how I wanted to be a CEO. I doubt that it would have gone smoothly without the help of the information systems. Thank you Mr. Lim for giving me a huge boost in achieving my dream.

I have to say that after doing this portfolio, it has reignited my interest in blogging and keeping track of stuff I do. Through this I hope to be more organized and achieve greater heights. Thank you Mr, Lim once again for entertaining my enquiries and I'm sorry if I misbehaved in your class. It has been a fun learning experience altogether. :)

Organizational Behavior

Organizational Behavior (OB) is the study and application of knowledge about how people, individuals, and groups act in organizations. It teaches future mangers how to create a harmonious and suitable workplace.

There were some interesting assignments in this subject such as watching Sherlock Holmes the movie and analyzing how Watson and him made such a good team. We also did a presentation about a hotel model where we had to design our hotel. Through this presentation alone we were carrying out what we have learnt as we had to find a way to mange the group so as to be efficient. Conflicts were avoided and we had fun while carrying out the assignment.

It has been a hectic few weeks due to rushing assignments and I'm so grateful all is almost complete. Looking forward to the holidays!

Finance

A brief introduction about finance. It is basically the science of funds management. The field of finance deals with the concept of time, money, risk and how they are interrelated.

This subject comes in handy if we were to ever work in a bank in the future. Finance also teaches us how to see stocks as well as updates on interest rates and more. To get more into detail, we were given a group assignment which was to analyze a company's profit, stock price and a few other important details. We analyzed the YTL Group which was quite a big company.

Overall, I have learnt a great deal about finance after this semester. I have to admit that before this I was completely clueless about this subject as it is considered one of the toughest subjects. Any problems and doubts i faced was cleared by the lecturer who tried his best to help me. Who knows, I may take up banking in the future?;) Finals are coming up and its time to study!

Business Communication

Business Communication is defined as communication used to promote a product, service, or organization; relay information within the business; or deal with legal and similar issues. It is also a means of relaying between a supply chain, for example the consumer and manufacturer.

This subject helps in improving english. Besides that, we learned how to write business letters, resumes and others which will be important in the future. It also teaches us how to plan for the future by analysing ones weaknesses, strengths and etc.

We were given a few presentations and this has helped me in being more confident on speaking in front of others. A few assignments were also given to help us fully understand this topic.  In the first assignment, we had to write a journal on a chosen person managing a company and do a SWOT analysis on him or her. For this assignment, I picked a jewellery designer and interviewed him. I was interested as this field interested me so I got to know the basics of operating in this field as well as manging a company. Definitely an enlightening experience.

Thanks to my groupmates and the lecturer!

Macroeconomics

Macroeconomics is the field of economics that studies the behavior of the aggregate economy. Macroeconomics examines economy-wide phenomena such as changes in unemployment, national income, rate of growth, gross domestic product, inflation and price levels.

We were given assignments and this helped me understand more fully of what this topic was mainly about. Practicality is sometimes better than theory. An example was a video assignment we did of how petrol subsidies would reap long term benefits. While doing this assignment, it opened up my eyes as in to how i was soon going into the real world and would have to be independent soon and not just rely on my parents. Issues relating to economy was going to be my problem and macroeconomics was the perfect subject to help me prepare for adulthood.

The project provided other benefits as well such as getting closer to my groupmates and having fun along the way. I would like to thank the lecturer for a job well done.

The Semester Ends

The semester is finally coming to an end. After weeks of assignments, learning, exams and of course having fun while at it, I have gained a huge amount of knowledge. The lecturers of each subjects I took have been very professional in educating us as well as answering to our enquiries if we encounter difficulties along the way. In the next few posts, I will reflect on each subject taken and how it has enhanced my knowledge.;)

Stay tuned!

Looking Forward To The Weekend

I used to hate her. But she's so talented at being untalented. :)

I remembered the first time I heard Tik Tok, I thought it was super duper duper duperrrrr annoying. Who is this girl?

And then, as much as I hate the song. It got to me. Then she came out with few other singles, I hated it as much as I hated Tik Tok at first, but then all of em got to me.

Thing about her is, she has a decent voice but she ABUSES autotune too much!

Let me get you an example :

Not bad right? But then she portrays herself in this drunk care-free & attitude that makes people not to take her seriously. Its just her publicity stunt, that's what I feel.

She's actually a talented songwriter, as she writes all her song, and even composes them. Don't you think somehow you would know they lyrics to her song ? Why ? Because its catchy! Haha

Kudos to her.

And my favourite song from her !

And another talented talented artist. HEHE I actually believe she's and her team are very VERY smart :) Look where it got her now ? Making millions and hated by millions ? I wouldn't mind. Its just a fun fun fun funnnnn song. Haha :P

ITS FRIDAY FRIDAY GOTTA GET DOWN ON FRIDAY ;)

:)

24 Hours A Day Is Never Enough.

24 Hours A Day Is Never Enough.

There are times when you just feel that 24 hours per day is not enough. And this week is one of those times. As of now, I have 3 assignments due next week. I could say that I am so stressed out but there's no point complaining because I know this is all for my own good and hence I shall not use this post to blog about how stressed out I am :)

but. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

At first I thought that I was going to lose it! LITERALLY,you know like how tension builds and you suddenly go all mental.I remember someone once told me that 'procrastination is the thief of time'.....most advice bounces off me,so obviously this went in through my right ear and went out through my left leaving no trace whatsoever & and now this comes back to haunt me and drive me even more off the edge.

I'm not a lazy person,no honestly I'm so silly to lie here, but such a procrastinator eh? Like I never noticed I always tell myself  'OKAY WAKE UP AND I'M GONNA TAKE THE TIME TO DO MY HOMEWORK'....pfft yeah like that ever happens. You wake up all motivated and suddenly your favourite show is on or someone calls you out to grab a bite.In your head your really like 'JESS SIT DOWN AND DO WORK'...but you know I cant say 'NO' (lets blame Jim Carrey in Yes Man for this alright) and you magically forget about work for awhile and let your mind chill out without worries but you go home and work inevitably hits you in the face again and yet you repeat the same process.

I am so blessed that I have my friend Azam to keep me in check. Azam and I have a pact; I will make sure he does his work and does not procrastinate and vice versa. Some may say that I am not independent in that sense, but I think everyone has to have someone or something to keep them in check and to motivate them to do their work (speaking of which, Azam is already bugging me to continue researching on my assignments).

I truly adore him! He brings me out to eat every time after I finish the assignment. Sigh what would I do without him :)
Till then, signing off!

Monte Carlo ;)

Organizational Behavior Model in Biz Spot.
(Model : Hotel Monte Carlo)

One of our task for Organizational Behavior(OB) was to build a building (restaurant, hotels etc)

We're required to build our model during one of our OB tutorial.
We are given 2 hours to finish up our model.
This aim of this project was to give us an idea on how to run a hotel.
After this project was done, we had to do a presentation on this model. Each of us had to talk about the model.
I had to analyze how a hotel is being managed; come up with numbers of staffs and departments.
Not only that, we had to analyze all the theory that a manager uses to organize their staffs/ to bring them together so that the hotel runs efficiency.

After the presentation, we now roughly know how does a hotel manages their staffs and maintain the hotel effectiveness and efficiency.

Business Communication Presentation

We had Business Communication presentation last Wednesday. Our group chose to analyze Nuffnang a blog advertising company.Everything went well and after so many presentations I finally overcome my fear of presenting in front of a large crowd. I am now more confident and more fluent in my speaking skills while making presentations. While preparing and researching on this presentation, I learned a lot of things that I wouldn't have learn by just reading the textbook. I had to go to various websites and on top of that I have to go to over to Nuffnang's headquater in Kuala Lumpur with my group mates.

I got closer to my group mates and our discussions were very fun while being productive.  :)

MIS video assignment.

After a week of video shooting and editing;
                                     here is the final product!
:D

Enjoy! ;)

this is what we do when we're feeling restless at 2a.m while editing the video assignment. haha

stress stress stress

The term is coming to an end and its all really hectic at the moment. Assignments, exams.. Gahh I'd just kill myself. Anyways its really been stressful as there are just too many assignments to complete in such a short period of time. Well, there goes my beauty sleep.
Found a solution to stress management tho..

I have picked up a hobby/way to release all the stress pent up in my system. A few times a week depending on my schedule, I attend Muay Thai classes. Muay Thai is a combat sport originated from Thailand and it combines boxing, kickboxing, grappling and a few others. Don't you feel like punching stuff sometimes give you this huge sense of relief? Besides this, I can accessorize :p I'm looking for really cute yellow boxing gloves.

So I'll be a very very busy person these few weeks and although I'll most probably be super stressed out, it'll all be a good learning curve for me. What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger no?

Here are some pictures (a bit blurry but oh wells) ;

Muay Thai not only releases stress, we have a tradition where we are supposed to treat each one of the members there as a family. We respect each other and we are really close. Its a good thing! ;)

PS : Muay Thai is not scary! Everyone should learn :D Hence, start signing up now!

toodles!

Life is like being on a Rollercoaster

You’ve all heard the saying before right? I’m sure you have.. I know this is a tad random but just my thoughts..

We all at some point have felt it, thought it, experienced it. The ups and downs of life makes us all who we are. It makes us great. It makes us pathetic.

I’m writing about this analogy because recently, I have felt that my life is all down. And then I realised something; for me, the down is like the slow, boring ride to the top of the tracks. You know how the rollercoaster starts off with a slow uphill climb? And we’re all only looking forward to what comes after that, the ride itself.

But instead of waiting to reach the top, instead of looking forward to the fun part, the ups, maybe instead, we should appreciate the downs as well. Enjoy the climb. It is almost always as long or longer than the ride itself anyway. So kick back, take a look around. Look at the kid beside you whose face is green with fear. Take a look at the view, the rest of the amusement park! You’re probably at the highest point of the amusement park anyway. So why not enjoy it?

We all have ups and downs in our lives. Learn to enjoy the downs, go wild with the ups, and at the end of the day, we’ll all have a little bit less to complain about.

Learn to make your life more enjoyable, worth living.

Jewelry Designer:)

me love.

It took a good twenty years to create the person I am today. In such lengthy period of time, I have been given the opportunity to explore the world in order to satisfy my curiosity towards all the bizarre and breathtaking things around me. In the past years, I have learned so much in life as learning is a part of growing up and I now truly understand what life is all about. I have been blessed to have been brought up to be a responsible and to have earned my freedom during my latter stages of my teen years and it was then that I began to understand more of the world around us and that success does not come easily.

When I was younger, my dad used to always tell me that nothing comes easy in life and that I will have to study hard and get a good occupation to have a stable life ahead. All this while, his wish was for me to become a lawyer in the future seeing that many relatives and family friends of mine are lawyers. Earlier, I actually completed 1st year of law degree. After a year, I was ascertained that law was not my cup of tea, and decided to take up business instead. Believing that my parents would be upset, I was wrong. Both of them were rather encouraging and told me to reach for my dreams as nothing can stop a man from achieving his goal. My burden was lifted then. “Aim for the stars, that way if you fall you’ll drop at the moon”, is my dad’s all time favourite line.

I have been talking to a friend of mine, Edric Ng and he has been telling me more or less bout' the field that he's in now; jewelry designing. I must admit that I really admire the fact that he is a jewelry designer and I would love to be in a jewelry business one day. Plus, diamonds are a girl’s best friend and I would not mind having to face it daily.

Oh, and I've done a S.W.O.T analysis! ;p

Strengths
I am a committed person and have always been interested in jewelry designing. I believe that with my passion and hard work, I can improve the industry to a better level. I complete every given challenges with an open mind, to gain and learn something new. Moreover, that I work very well with people, and communication is the key in this field. I believe, I could succeed in this field.

Opportunities
As I have Edric Ng as an acquaintance in this field, he could provide me with vast exposure about this industry. Other than that, many jewelry fairs could be found around Malaysia, offering me job opportunities and learning experiences. As this field is becoming more welcomed from the public, workshops regarding jewelries design are available here. With that, I could further improve my knowledge in jewelry designing.

Weaknesses
Unfortunately, I see myself as a perfectionist. I tend to care about the insignificant details too little too much, that it could affect my work quality. This trait could either make me, or break me.

Threats

As this industry is getting more well-received, there would be higher competitors in this industry. This would mean I would have to strive to outshine others.

I'm so sorry if I bore you. haha.
Good day!
;)

A Lil' About Myself :)

Greetings!

Firstly, a little bout' myself,

..... well my name is Jessica Ling, and I will be turning 20 at the end of this year. However, despite my young age many of my peers refer to me as mature and hardworking although I can be pretty playful at times.

Education wise, I am currently a student of Taylor's University. I took up International Business and Marketing(IBM) and will be graduating in 2 1/2 years time (hopefully!). I completed high school at the end of 2008 and decided to take up a Pre-U programme; South Australian Matriculation(SAM) in the year of 2009. After graduating, in 2010, I applied for a Bachelor of Law course in HELP University. This was due to a passion for law that had grown in me since childhood.
Main reason why I liked law was because I was said to have a very strong and forceful character by my peers. Stubborn at times but these were qualities most likely suited to being a lawyer. I would like to think I am very sociable and I love making new friends as well as traveling and exploring the world outside or within Malaysia. Once I set my mind on doing something, I won't get peace of mind until its done so I am a commited person. "Be the change you want to see in the world", one of my favourite quotes as I tend to be a perfectionist and this may slow me down at times which can be pretty annoying.

Unfortunately, after completing the first year of the course, I found it wasn't my cup of tea and decided to switch over to International Business and Marketing(IBM). Hence, this was why I finally decided to major the course that I am currently enrolled in, being Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in International and Business Marketing (IBM). To date, I am fully enjoying this course and have been told by many lecturers and peers that I was built for this. As most people say, "if you don't feel comfortable with what you're doing, why bother doing it?" I expect to complete this course on time in 2013, so that I can pursue a fruitful and illustrious career in the field that I have chosen.

Stay tuned! :)
