Their history, My future!

Maersk Line is the core liner shipping business of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, and the leading container shipping company in the world. The Maersk Line fleet comprises more than 600 vessels and a number of containers corresponding to more than 4,100,000 TEU (Twenty foot Equivalent Unit – a container 20 feet long). Currently, Maersk Line has 325 offices around the globe with approximately 25,000 employees allotted in 125 countries.

WHAT DOES CONTAINER SHIPPING MEANS?

Containerization is a global system of intermodal cargo transport using standardized containers. Today, Maersk Line ships around 14% of the world container trade. Every commodity and type of goods can be loaded and carried in ‘the box’, as the container is often referred to. As a result, modern container shipping has changed the way we transport goods around the world and has played a key role in globalization.

MAERSK LINE IN MALAYSIA

Maersk Line, one of the largest shipping companies in Malaysia, is represented by Maersk Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Operation in Malaysia was commenced on the 25 September 1974 with offices in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Port Klang. Since then, with the impressive development of trade in Malaysia, the Maersk network has expanded, with a new office opened in Tanjung Pelepas, Johor, following the move of hub terminal operations from Singapore. To cover Maersk Line's interests on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, they are currently represented via an agency agreement with Gateway Shipping Sdn. Bhd. in Kuantan.

All regional offices in Malaysia have their own Customer Service to provide customers with high quality, fast and efficient service. The customer service teams handle all export tasks, including proactive telephone and online bookings. The documentation centre in Kuala Lumpur handles all export documentation and is responsible for the release of all bills of lading.
The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) is now the new gateway in the state of Johor. It is also a haven for port-related industries, as PTP is a free trade zone with abundant land for distribution parks and other warehousing requirements. In August 2000, Maersk Line became a strategic partner of PTP with an estimated annual volume of 2 million TEUs annually and was awarded as the "Best Emerging Container Terminal Award" by Lloyd's List in October 2000.

On August 2005, Maersk acquired P&O Nedlloyd creating a new brand name Maersk Line replacing former brand Maersk Sealand and P&O Nedlloyd. Progressing on this, since Feb 12th 2006 Maersk Malaysia has completed full integration of these two companies here in Malaysia and have now moved to a new office in Glenmarie since April 2006.

PHILOSOPHY
Maersk Line is a division of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, with which they share the same values and business principles - to be a world-class group, known and highly respected. An attractive business partner and employer, and a good corporate citizen.

When founder Mr. A.P. Møller wrote "No loss should hit us, which could be avoided with constant care", he summarized in a few words one of the central themes of Maersk Line's business philosophy.

Living with the seas and respecting nature is ingrained in their culture and matches their quest for constant care. This concept has a wide and deep meaning at Maersk Line. "Constant care" implies a strong dedication to promote the health and safety of their employees and others in the industry and in the world around us.

VALUES
The A.P. Moller - Maersk Group's core values include regard for their employees, the demonstration of constant care, uprightness and humbleness, and protection of their good name. Reputation and success depend on the way they fulfill these values while conducting their business.

BUSINESS PRINCIPLE
The “Maersk Fundamental Business Principles” govern how they conduct the business. Compliance with applicable national as well as international legislation is obviously a necessary part of this.

ENVIRONMENT

Protecting the environment is a question of constant care – in the way they use resources, optimize operations and handle waste. Their environmental protection policy statement reads: "We are committed to the protection of the environment and place high priority on environmental considerations in managing our business."

MISSION
To provide opportunities in global commerce.

STRATEGIC DIFFERENTIATORS
Be customer's first choice through ease of business, unmatched reliability and best environmental performance.

Moving on,
The company is only as good as its employees and these are the employees who made it successful…

Malaysia Team

Additionally, charts below presents the very supportive and accommodating team from India that we’re working very closely with on an everyday basis

In the end of the day, I am truly grateful to be given a chance and opportunity to work with the top logistic company in the world. “A tree is only as strong as its roots” - being able to be part of this company for a short period of time is indeed a blessing in disguise and fruitful, as I believe I have gained so much in so many ways. This is true for the knowledge that I have enhanced, experiences that I have gained and friends I have met.

The people made the workplace which is usually a boring place into a fun place! Even though I have finished my training, I miss being part of the family.
